From Restaurant Bankruptcy to a New Beginning with ORAT Food Truck
Jan 19,2026
Last year was one of the worst times in my life.
For a few years, I had been running a teppanyaki restaurant in Los Angeles. The business was doing well for a long time. We were busy almost every night about two years ago, especially before 2023. We had a lot of loyal customers who loved our food and came back often, so weekends were always busy.
I really thought my restaurant would keep getting bigger at that time.
But things changed after 2023.
Foot traffic dropped sharply when the slow season started. People were eating out less, and the commercial area around it became noticeably quieter. Even though our regular customers kept buying from us, our total sales kept going down every month.
Costs for rent, labor, utilities, and food never went down, but sales did.
I had to face the truth by the first half of 2025.
My restaurant went out of business.

Still in love with the food business
I thought about switching industries when the restaurant shut down.
Friends suggested jobs in logistics, real estate, or even the office. That might have been the safer choice from a practical point of view. But deep down, I knew one thing for sure: I really understood the food business.
I knew what went into things.
I knew how to run things.
I knew how to keep customers coming in and how to run the kitchen well.
The most important thing was that I still loved to cook.
So, even though I lost my restaurant, I still wanted to run a food business.
Money was the issue.
My budget was very tight after the bankruptcy. It was not possible to open another traditional restaurant. I began to look at very small storefronts and places with low rents, but even those needed deposits, renovations, and long-term lease commitments.
Everything seemed dangerous.
Finding out about the idea of a mobile food truck
I found something I had never really thought about before while looking online for cheap food business ideas: mobile food trucks.
I wasn't sure at first.
But the more I learned, the more it made sense.
A food truck offered:
- A lot less money to start up
- No long-term business lease
- Places of operation that are flexible
- Less need for workers
I started to do serious research.
I spent almost two full weeks learning as much as I could about:
- Cost of the first investment
- Costs of daily maintenance
- Los Angeles permits and rules
- Requirements for a commissary kitchen
- Layouts of power systems and equipment
I made a choice after those two weeks.
I would start my own food truck company.

Used Food Trucks or Chinese Makers?
After the choice was made, a new problem came up.
I only had two real choices because I didn't have much money:
- Purchase a pre-owned food truck in the United States.
- Get a new food truck from a Chinese company.
At first, I really wanted to buy a used truck. It felt safer, more like home, and more like home. But after looking at a few used food trucks, I started to see some big problems:
- Old wiring systems
- Problems with rust
- Old-fashioned kitchen layouts
- Repairs that cost a lot after you buy
A lot of used trucks looked fine on the outside, but the inside showed clear signs of years of use.
I started looking into Chinese food truck brands at that point.
Honestly, I was worried.
My biggest worry was if Chinese factories followed U.S. rules for making things. I was worried about problems with inspections, electrical systems, or following safety rules.
Instead of trusting ads, I talked to a few people online who had already bought Chinese food trucks.
That made everything different.
Why I Chose ORAT
ORAT was the brand that stood out the most to me after doing my research.
I learned about several clear benefits from talking to the team and hearing what real buyers had to say.
1. A good grasp of U.S. standards
ORAT knew a lot about U.S. rules, such as:
- Standards for electrical systems
- Layouts for commercial kitchens
- NSF equipment works with
- Special requests based on local laws
They didn't give answers that were unclear. They made me feel a lot better by explaining things clearly.
2. Lots of options for customization
Every inch counted because I didn't have much space.
ORAT helped me make my own:
- Putting things in their right place
- Designing the flow of work
- Areas for storage
- The layout of the ventilation
They didn't give me a set template; instead, they changed the design based on my cooking style and menu.
3. Cheap without lowering quality
ORAT offered a brand-new food truck at a very low price compared to buying a used truck in the U.S. They didn't have to give up on build quality.
This was very important for someone who was rebuilding after going bankrupt.

4. Clear communication and confirmation through sight
They sent pictures and videos on a regular basis during production.
I could see the frame, insulation, wiring, and installation of the inside in order. This openness helped a lot of people feel less anxious.
Getting the Truck: Things That Made Me Happy
I was nervous when the food truck finally got here.
But I was really impressed once I got inside.
It wasn't just the overall quality that surprised me; it was the attention to detail.
For instance:
- The ordering windows were hydraulic, so they opened and closed smoothly and safely.
- You could customize the cabinet handles inside to be hidden, which would stop people from bumping into them by accident.
- Corners were carefully smoothed out so there were no sharp edges.
- The kitchen didn't feel crowded, but there was a lot of storage space.
These little design changes made things a lot easier to do every day.
At first, you don't notice them, but when you work in the truck for 8 to 10 hours a day, they make a big difference.
Not a Shortcut, but a New Chapter

This food truck didn't fix everything overnight.
It's never easy to start over.
But the stress is a lot easier to handle than running a regular restaurant. I can choose where to work, try out different places, and change my schedule based on how busy I am.
Most importantly, I got back my confidence, which I had lost after the bankruptcy.
Just because my restaurant failed doesn't mean I failed as a food business owner. It just meant that the model didn't work anymore.
With my ORAT food truck, I feel like I'm rebuilding step by step, getting smarter, lighter, and more flexible.
Sometimes losing everything isn't the end.
This is just the start of a new way to go.
